Effects of H₂O₂ on the translational activity of mutant derivatives of EF-G. Derivatives of EF-G (2 μm) were treated, separately, with 0.5 mm H₂O₂ (Ox) and 5 mm DTT (Red) for 5 min. After removal of residual H₂O₂ by catalase, the derivatives were subjected to the translational assay in the translation system from E. coli that had been prepared without EF-G. Translation was allowed to proceed at 30 °C for the indicated times and translational activity was monitored in terms of the synthesis of ³⁵S-labeled DHFR, as indicated in the legend to Fig. 1.
