Peptoid vs. peptide architecture. Peptoids are oligomers of N-substituted glycine units. In contrast to peptides, peptoids feature an achiral backbone with side chain groups presented on the nitrogen atom. The relevant backbone dihedral angles are ω [Cα(i - 1); C(i - 1); N; Cα], φ [C(i - 1); N; Cα; C], ψ [N; Cα; C; N(i + 1)], and χ1 [Cα; N; NCα; Cβ].
