Purine metabolism (bottom, part of pathway shown) intermediates undergo a completely different time course in response to LCMV infection, compared to other measured pathways. Plasma xanthine (blue, left axis) and hypoxanthine (red, right axis) decrease rapidly and substantially in concentration beginning on day 3, and continuing through day 14.
