Colonization of 3-week-old chickens by C. jejuni 11168H (WT) and 11168H sdaA. Groups of 20 chickens with Campylobacter-free adult gut flora were inoculated with 10⁷ CFU of either strain. At weekly intervals, cloacal swabs were taken and the extent of colonization was determined. The data are expressed as a dual percentage of the number of chickens colonized, as assessed by both direct counts (solid black bars) and enrichment counts (hatched bars).
