SP-D binding to acapsular C. neoformans can be inhibited by GXM, mannan, and maltose. Results of flow cytometric analysis of binding of FITC-labeled SP-D (10 μg/ml) to acapsular C. neoformans (strain B4131) in the presence of increasing concentrations of the indicated saccharides are shown. Data are expressed as percentages of maximal SP-D binding as measured in the absence of a (poly)saccharide inhibitor.
