Two mechanisms underlying circadian control of NF-κB response. (A) CLOCK/BMAL1-regulated circadian oscillation in the expression of genes encoding components of the NF-κB pathway. (B) CLOCK-dependent up-regulation of the transcriptional activity of NF-κB. Daily oscillations in the abundance and functional state of free (not bound by BMAL1) CLOCK result in corresponding variations in the scale of NF-κB activation.
