Live/dead assay of the constructs demonstrated uniform cell viability along the cultivation process (green indicates live cells, red indicates dead cells, scale bar: 500 μm) (a). DNA quantification showed an increase in cell numbers in medium- and high-density scaffolds when compared to low-density scaffolds (n=4) (b). Hematoxylin/eosin staining of construct sections showed uniform cell distribution by week 1. At week 5, the inner part of high-density scaffolds showed lack of cells in some areas.
