SDS-PAGE separation was used to identify eIF3 components phosphorylated in in vitro kinase reactions with GST-tagged Cka1. (A) Separation on a 10% gel indicates that CK2 phosphorylates Nip1 and/or Prt1. (B) Separation on a 7.5 % gel resolves the most prominent phosphorylated band in (A) into a doublet and shows both Nip1 and Prt1 are phosphorylated by Cka1. Nip1 appears to be more prominently 32P-labeled compared to Prt1.
