Assembly of Cp183 dimers in the absence of RNA results in empty capsids with CTDs transiently exposed through the pores on the icosahedral twofold axes. Co-assembly of Cp183 dimers with pgRNA results in RNA-filled capsids where the RNA structure is responsive to the phosphorylation states of the CTD.
