Scattered electric field normal for a 50 nm Au nanoparticle illuminated with a radially polarized source is shown as determined by our COMSOL model. (A) The projection of the electric field strength in the x–y plane reveals the orientation of the maximum enhancement along the 45° diagonal. (B) The map of the electric field in the p1=(1, 1, 1), p2=(1, 1, 0), p3=(0, 0, 0) plane is projected into the x–z plane. The calculation show a dominant scattered field along the line x=y but tilted above and below the plane.
