Bar graph showing how flow for 2 min periods at a range of flow rates (0.5–5 mL·min⁻¹) induced dilatation and constriction in carotid artery segments at an intermediate level of U46619-induced tone. The combined presence of L-NAME (100 µM), indomethacin (Indo, 3 µM), apamin (0.5 µM) and TRAM-34 (10 µM) inhibited the dilatation but had no effect on the magnitude of the flow-induced constriction. Data are presented as the mean ± SEM of five to nine observations. *P < 0.05 and ***P < 0.01 indicate significant differences from respective controls.
