^aData are the averages of three experiments or the counting of 800 to 1,000 cells. For all three experiments, the cells were grown in minimal media at 37°C into log phase before the treatment. The UV survival reported is survival after 20 J/m² of irradiation. For the SOS test, cells were irradiated at 10 J/m², imaged after 1.5 h of incubation at 37°C in the dark, and quantified as described in Materials and Methods.
