BCFA enhance L. monocytogenes phagosomal survival during infection of RAW 264.7 macrophages. RAW 264.7 macrophages were infected with WT bacteria or the BCFA-deficient BKD mutant (A) or with the LLO mutant or the BKD LLO double mutant (B) from overnight cultures at an MOI of 5 for 30 min. The percent change in CFU reflects the percent difference in intracellular CFU determined at the indicated times postinfection (hpi) compared to 0.5 hpi. Averages of triplicates were plotted with error bars denoting the standard deviation. The data shown here are representative of at least three independent experiments. No significant difference between samples was denoted as “ns.” Significant differences are indicated by asterisks (***, P < 0.005; **, P < 0.01).
