Note that LC/SC stimulation at a stimulus intensity below 50 μA never produced EMG activity of the masseter muscle associated with stimulation of the mesencephalic trigeminal nucleus, located just lateral to the LC/SC, and that EMG activity was still observed even when the evoked discharge was completely inhibited by LC/SC stimulation at an intensity over 50 μA.
