Table II. Fresh weight and chlorophyll content of chlorate-treated Arabidopsis plants.

Plants were grown in vermiculite:perlite (1:1) and irrigated with medium containing 5 mm NO₃⁻ for 5 to 7 d. Plants were then irrigated with ClO₃⁻-containing medium without NO₃⁻ for 3 d and subsequently with medium lacking both ClO₃⁻ and NO₃⁻. Fresh weight and chlorophyll content were obtained from plants 7 to 10 d after ClO₃⁻ treatment. Each data point represents seven to nine plants. Two independent replicates gave similar results.
