Damage-inducible Wg from EBs is required for ISC proliferation during midgut regeneration. Model of interactions in the ISC niche during damage. Intestinal damage or stress results in JNK activation in ECs. This results in upregulation and secretion of Wg by EBs, which in turn activates canonical Wnt signalling and Myc upregulation in its progenitor ISC to drive proliferation and tissue regeneration. The visceral muscle niche expresses Wg but is dispensable for regeneration. See the text for details.
