HCl (pH 5, 5 min) induced significant release of ATP from epithelial cells (*P < 0.001) compared with untreated cells (control). IRTX (10−7–10−5 M) did not stimulate ATP release, demonstrating that IRTX concentrations used in the present study do not activate TRPV1 receptors in HET-1A cells.
