Recovery from inactivation was measured using a standard variable-interval protocol. An initial 5 s pulse (P1) from –90 to +50 mV was followed by a P2 pulse after an interval of 0–20 s in 400 ms intervals. The ratio of peak currents (Ipeak,P2/Ipeak,P1) is plotted versus pulse interval. Recovery is shown for (A) Kv1.4 (■, n = 8) and Kv1.4[P558G] (○, n = 12), and (B) Kv1.4ΔN (■, n = 6) and Kv1.4[P558G]ΔN (○, n = 10). Changing the interpulse holding potential from −90 to −20 mV altered the recovery rate.
