pH dependence of the specific binding of ¹²⁵I-elicitins on tobacco plasma membrane preparations. Fifty micrograms of plasma membrane proteins was incubated with 10 nm ¹²⁵I-cryptogein (○),¹²⁵I-cinnamomin (•), ¹²⁵I-capsicein (□), or ¹²⁵I-parasiticein (▪) in the following buffers: citrate-KOH (pH 4.0–6.0), Hepes-KOH (pH 6.5–8.0), and Tris-HCl (pH > 8.0). Buffer strength was 10 mm. Specific binding was expressed as a percentage of the maximal specific binding measured for each elicitin. The experiment was repeated three times. Each data point represents the average of triplicate measurements.
