Midbrain afferents to VTA. Median raphe nucleus (MR) and tVTA showed behavior-related Fos activation in VTA-projecting neurons. In MR afferents of VTA, Fos was greater in CS− than locomotor control animals. In tVTA afferents of VTA, Fos was greater in extinction animals than in CS+ reinstatement animals, or locomotor controls.
