As nematode counting is an invasive technique, separate plant sets had to be prepared for nematode counting and chemical analyses. The results for aphid abundances shown here (a) were taken from the plants used for chemical analyses; however, aphid numbers on AN plants for nematode counting were similar (see results) (this figure is available in colour at JXB online).
