Atherosclerotic lesions in model rabbits were divided into the 4 categories using a classification scheme based on the recommendations of the American Heart Association: neointimal (types I-III) A. atheromatous (type IV) B. fibroatheromatous (types Va and Vb) C. and collagen-rich (type Vc) D. Morphologic destabilization analysis showed that the atheromatous lesion was the most vulnerable to rupture.
