EspZ inhibits staurosporine-induced apoptosis. HeLa-vector and HeLa-espZ stable transfectants were stimulated with STS, an intrinsic apoptotic pathway inducer (A), or 150 ng/ml TNF-α and 10 μg/ml CHX, which, in combination, induce the extrinsic apoptotic pathway (B). Death was then monitored via PI uptake for the next 4, 8, or 12 h. Average changes in the fluorescence of 4 wells at the given time points (relative units) are shown.
