Use of short-acting beta-2 agonist (SABA) rescue medication and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) maintenance medication during the different stages of an asthma worsening. All patients used ICS plus a separate long-acting beta-2 agonist (LABA) (n=319), ICS alone (n=1018), or a combination ICS/LABA product (n=2074: salmeterol/fluticasone, n=1305; budesonide/formoterol, n=769) for regular maintenance therapy.
