The wild-type protoplasts, isolated as described for Figure 1, were washed with and suspended in the incubation medium adjusted to pH 7.2 with Tris. A, The protoplasts were stimulated with a blue-light pulse immediately after time 0. B, Protoplasts were not stimulated with blue light, but were otherwise treated as in A. The protoplasts that were in the volume range from 5 × 10³ to 30 × 10³ μm³ at time 0 were analyzed. The means ± se from 67 (A) or 38 (B) protoplasts are shown.
