Arabidopsis inflorescences developmentally arrest and show symptoms of senescence when detached and held in the dark. Ecotype Landsberg erecta inflorescences were harvested from plants grown in a 16-h photoperiod and placed with their cut ends in water at 21°C. A, Detached inflorescences held in a 16-h photoperiod. B, Detached inflorescences held in darkness. C, Senescence parameters were measured for dark-held inflorescences.
