Expression of slits in the mouse hindbrain between E11 and E17. Slit1 mRNA is expressed strongly in the ventral midline (marked by asterisks) at all embryonic ages up to E17 (A, B, C, D). Slit2 mRNA is expressed in the ventral midline and in motor neuron columns (arrows) at E 11 and 13 and in the midline at E15 (E, F, G). At E17, slit2 is not detected anymore in the ventral midline of the hindbrain (H). Slit3 mRNA expression is observed in the ventral midline at early embryonic period (I, J) and its expression is down regulated from E15 on (K, L). Although slit1 is expressed in all embryonic age from E11 to E17, both slit2 and slit3 message decrease significantly from E15 (G, H, K, L). Arrowheads indicate the approximate location of the PrV.
