A robust negative relationship in which increased CORT response corresponds with decreased ability to kill E. colibacteria was detected in common side-blotched lizards (P<0.0001). Individuals sampled from sites within St. George, Utah, exhibited significant decreases in bacterial killing ability compared to those sampled from sites outside St. George (P<0.002). Values are mean ±1SE; different letters and symbols denote statistically significant differences. Numbers in bars indicate sample sizes.
