LSS enhances late gene expression. (A) The same lysates as those shown in Fig. 2A were assayed for late viral protein expression by Western blotting. Multiple blots were required to probe for all the proteins, and even loading on each blot was confirmed by amido black staining. One blot for all samples was probed for α-tubulin, as shown in Fig. 2A. (B to D) ECs were infected as stated for Fig. 2A and collected at the indicated times. Viral mRNA expression was measured by quantitative RT-PCR with primers specific for UL83 (B), UL32 (C), and UL55 (D). Viral mRNAs were normalized to α-tubulin, and each time point is relative to expression of LSS at 24 h p.i. Data represent the means ± SD from three independent experiments.
