Np indicates the number of transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE)‐positive mice irrespective of their clinical status. N indicates the total number of inoculated mice. Nc indicates the subset of Np mice that also showed clinical signs of TSE; only Nc mice were used in the calculation of incubation period data.
