Details as in Fig. 1. Adrenalectomy caused phase desynchrony and damping of the rhythmicity in cornea. Despite a robust first day peak, four of five ADX corneas did not reveal any significant period as assessed by periodogram (P > 0.05; Lumicycle, Actimetrics, Wilmetter, IL). All corneas from the hydrocortisone-treated group (n = 5) regained robust oscillations and phase synchronization (Rayleigh test, P < 0.01). CORT, Hydrocortisone.
