Collagen deposition in the myocardium. The scope of collagen deposition was measured by collagen-rich area calculated as the percentage of the area at risk myocardium. There was extensive loss of myocardial mass in the control group over time. Curcumin treatment significantly reduced collagen deposition with increased mass of viable myocardium within the LV anterior wall. No collagen deposition was detected in either of the sham groups. n= 8, values are mean ± SEM. †P < 0.05 versus control.
