PgDps protects DNA from H₂O₂-mediated degradation in the presence of heme or ferrous iron. Linear DNA (10 nm) was pre-incubated with 30 μm PgDps and 10 μm heme (A) or 10 mm fresh ferrous iron (B) at 37 °C anaerobically for 1 h in the dark prior to being exposed to 10 mm H₂O₂ for 15 min anaerobically at 37 °C in the dark. DNA was separated on 1% agarose in TAE buffer and visualized with ethidium bromide staining.
