Natural abundance ¹³ C-NMR spectrum of major cytosolic solutes accumulated by R. etli wild-type and otsAch strains. Wild-type (A) and otsAch (B, C) cells were grown at 28°C in B^- minimal medium with 0.2 M NaCl. Cells were extracted as described in Materials and Methods. For the otsAch strain, cells were collected at the entrance of the first (B) and second (C) stationary phase of growth. The major solutes were trehalose (T), glutamate (G) and mannitol (M).
