Tensile properties of constructs at t = 5 wk. Fibrocartilage was treated with either C-ABC alone, TGF-β1 alone, the two agents combined, or left untreated (control). The Young’s modulus (A) and UTS (B) exhibited significance among bioactive treatments, corresponding to trends in the collagen content (Fig. 2, A). Constructs from both cell ratios had the greatest collagen content and tensile properties with the combined treatment. C-ABC and TGF-β1 together synergistically increased the Young’s modulus and UTS of the 50:50 constructs. Bars not connected by the same letter are significantly different (p < 0.05).
