Figure 3. Isoflurane effects on interleukin 1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα) contents in rat brain tissues.

Figure 3

A and B: eighteen-month-old Fisher 344 rats were exposed to or were not exposed to 1.2% isoflurane in the presence or absence of lidocaine for 2 h. Hippocampus and cerebral cortex were harvested at 6 h after anesthetic exposure for ELISA of IL-1β or TNFα content. C and D: eighteen-month-old Fisher 344 rats had training sessions of fear conditioning test and 30 min later were exposed to or were not exposed to 1.2% isoflurane in the presence or absence of lidocaine for 2 h. Hippocampus and cerebral cortex were harvested at 48 h after anesthetic exposure for ELISA of IL-1β or TNFα content. Results are means±S.D. (n = 4). *P<0.05 compared to control. ? P<0.05 compared to isoflurane alone. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way analysis of variance.
