Animals from Category I are shown on the left and animals from Category II are shown on the right. These animals were collected from our large scaled cultures (under conditions similar to those applied in the study) on 15th of May 2012, and they spawned at least two times after November 2011. White arrows indicate the preserved large oocytes in the following gonadal recrudescence, and blue arrows mark the ongoing reabsorption bed of large oocytes. Abbreviation: dps, day post spawning.
