In order to generate genetic diversity, a set of 200 networks is created with diverse sets of kinetic parameters. In each iteration the dynamics of all networks is calculated for the complete set of input signals. Based on dynamics, the fitness is calculated. Based on the fitness scores, the successful network are selected (elite selection). For each selected network mutations are either applied to the kinetic parameters or the topology of the network by adding new proteins. Each selected network gives rise to an equal number of clones such that the population contains again networks.
