Acinar cell hyperplasia (ACH) in rats treated with 50 mg/kg N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) at birth (day 0). Rats were fed a commercial CE-2 diet containing 0.006% arachidonic acid. (a) Sixteen weeks after MNU treatment. Large ACH exhibits non-capsulated acidophilic acinar architecture with mild compression to the surrounding tissue. Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining was performed. (b) Higher proliferative activity of acinar cells compared to the surrounding acinar cells. Immunohistochemistry was conducted for the proliferating cellular nuclear antigen. Bar=50 μm.
