The conserved amino acid sequence motif C(126)-P-T-T-T(130) found in both PMV and TNV are located in a loop, and five of these loops come into close proximity about the icosahedral fivefold axis. The cluster of loops produces a pore radius of 1.24 Å and severely inhibits any entry into the particle along this direction. The distances shown are for the pentamer containing A1 of particle 1.
