The colonies (Inline graphic in total) are first allowed to grow for a fixed number of time steps (Inline graphic). Then, all individuals (spores and cells) enter migration, forming a single migratory pool. From this pool, Inline graphic new colonies are established by taking, for each colony separately, Inline graphic random individuals. The complete cycle from the establishment of the colonies to the eventual migration of the individuals is called the nutritional cycle and is repeated over time. Notice that for clonally growing colonies Inline graphic, hence only a single genotype establishes a new colony.
