PAI-1 protein concentrations increase in mice with DT-mediated alveolar injury. Diphtheria toxin was administered daily (12.5 μg/kg in 100 μl PBS by the i.p. route) for 14 days to either DTR or DTR+ mice. An additional control group of DTR mice were injected with 100 μl PBS for 14 days. BAL fluid was collected from each animal after the last DT injection on day 14 (A) and 1 week after the last DT injection on day 21 (B) and assayed by ELISA for PAI-1 protein concentration. Results are reported as mean ± SEM (n = 6). Groups are compared with a one-way ANOVA and a Newman–Kuels post hoc multiple comparison test.
