Mean offensive and defensive behavioural patterns displayed by the Long-Evans residents (R; blue columns) and the CSC (black columns) rats during the first 2 h of CSC colony formation on days 1, 8 and 15 (3×2 h = 6 h). Long-Evans residents (n = 27) only showed offensive behaviours including threat, attack, offensive and keep down. CSC rats (n = 35) only displayed defensive and submissive behaviours such as freezing, defensive upright and lying on the back.
