UTI attenuates LPS-induced JNK (C) activation, but not the activation of p38 (A), or ERK1/2 (B). Neutrophils were incubated for 30 minutes with or without UTI (10,000 U/ml), or LPS (100 ng/ml) alone or with LPS plus UTI (CON, UTI, LPS, LPS + UTI respectively). The ratio of phosphorylated (p-) to total (t-) p38, ERK1/2 or JNK was then calculated with the data from three experiments in which pooled neutrophils from human blood were used. A second experiment provided similar results as did determinations at the 45 and 60 minute time points. Each bar represents mean ± SD. CON: control, UTI: urinary trypsin inhibitor, LPS: lipopolysaccharide, ERK: extracelluar signal-regulated protein kinases, JNK: c-Jun N-terminal kinase. *P < 0.05 versus CON. P < 0.05 versus LPS alone.
