Adult male and female mice (four in each group; 2 to 3 months old) were treated with pentobarbital (in phosphate-buffered saline) at a dose of 60 mg/kg i.p. The lengths of time between drug administration and the loss and the subsequent recovery of righting reflex were recorded. Values presented are means ± S.D.

Mouse Sleep Latency Sleep Time

WT, male 4.3 ± 0.4 51 ± 5
Null, male 4.2 ± 0.5 90 ± 12a
WT, female 4.0 ± 0.5 53 ± 8
