The prevalence of untreated and treated tuberculosis (TB) in random population samples of HIV-infected residents in 2005 and 2008 of a South African township. Untreated TB was confirmed by Mycobacterium tuberculosis culture. There was a significant decrease in prevalent TB between the two surveys with the greatest decline in previously unrecognised TB.
