Lower values of D¯res indicate a better fit to the data. Lower values of the DIC indicate a better compromise between model fit and model complexity. A difference in DICs of 5 or more can be considered substantial (http://www.mrc-bsu.cam.ac.uk/bugs/winbugs/dicpage.shtml).
