Pilin proteins harboring jelly-roll domains and autocatalytic aspartyl residues. Ribbon model for the X-ray crystallographic structures of three major pilin proteins from three Gram-positive microbes - Corynebacterium diphtheriae (SpaA), Actinomyces naeslundii (FimA) and Bacillus cereus (BcpA) - that harbor jelly-roll domains with intramolecular asparagines-lysine (K-N) isopeptide bonds requiring aspartyl (D) residues for autocatalysis.
