Recommendations for Discussion Groups Based on Participant and Facilitator Feedback

Delineate roles of participant and facilitator clearly.
Provide choice in selection of discussion group theme.
Ensure that facilitators have broad knowledge of course content.
Develop actionable goals for active engagement in the discussion and presentation.
Determine if the goal of the discussion group is depth or breadth of a topic. This can guide frequency and number of meetings of the group.
Define both process and product goals. An end product helps to focus the discussion but the discussion itself is valuable for networking and engaging with the course material.
