p16INK4a gene hypermethylation in the plasma of the breast cancer patients (n=200) and normal healthy controls (n=189) is determined using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. p16INK4a methylation is significantly higher in the plasma of the cancer patients than the normal controls.
